Three Sisters, Three Hairstyles

It's been a while since we've talked about hair in needlepoint, so I was thrilled to see this Bargello Needlepont article about a painted canvas project that features three women, each with a different hair style that reflects the personality of each.  Each sister wears a different headband in a different Bargello pattern as well, but I was particularly interested in the way each type of hair was created.  If you enlarge the photo as much as possible, you'll see just how intricate a pattern was created with two of the three hair treatments.  (The third person's hair is barely visible so the focus there is on the headband.)  Very interesting!  We forget sometimes that hair can be stylized and patterned in intricate stitches.  It doesn't have to be realistic to be wonderful hair.

I think the design is by Clarice, still distributed by Barbara Russell.  I am not certain, though, so if you know, please tell us in the comments (or email me directly at chilly hollow at hot maildotcom if you can't make Blogger's Comments work).
