I'll never get tired of saying i love your background. Those are beads? You got me right there - my weak point :) Now I have to find those needles, lost count of how many tiny scars I have from stabbing myself with them. No regrets but if I can avoid them, even better. Can't wait to see the whole stitching especially the geisha against that gorgeous background.
Palma, if you stab yourself repeatedly with beading needles, try the short beading needles from John James. Some folks find them easier to handle. Me, I love the long three inch ones but many folks prefer beading needles the length of tapestry needles.
I do sympathize. I had no idea I normally touch the tapestry needle to my fingers to help place it until I started using beading needles on silk gauze.

I just love today's canvas of the day. Reminds me of my mom. I have a picture of her dressed like that in the 50s. Awesome.

I have a tube of Sundance needles that came with a beading kit that are moderately long, fiercely sharp, and I love them. I did a lot of cross stitch and crewel years ago, so I got used to stitching with sharp needles and was, at first, appalled at how dull tapestry needles were. My senses have been dulled by these needles (bad pun), and now I have to be careful when I do surface work that requires sharp needles.
Jane, are the jade beads real jade or a speciality bead?
BTW, I love the Uptown Girl Series. Don't some of those canvases look like too much fun?
Judy, the beads on Miko's background are jade green in color, not real jade. I could have purchased real jade beads but not in that small a size. They are actually size 14/0 glass seed beads from SJ Designs in the color 1852. That's more or less the color of Miko's kimono which I wanted to bring into other parts of the design.
You can probably buy more Sundance beading needles from them via your local shop. I didn't know they offered needles but this is the second mention of them in a week so I'll be asking about them.

All the designs feature a young woman and her dog, going on adventures. They are charming. A challenge that let folks pick any one from the series would be wonderful as that adds more scope to folks' differing tastes....
I have a tube of Sundance needles that I bought (I think at B&B), but the ones I like better (but ostensibly still Sundance) are older, and I don't remember where I got them (maybe so old that I bought them when Sundance still had a retail store in Tucson and I was there on a business trip).
I love the beads. I am going to have to stock up on more SJ beads when the budget allows. I like the bead organizer that Amy shows in her newsletter, but shoot, I'd need one for beads and one for Kreinek. And I think I might miss my little bead shooters, those little buggers. ;-))
Jane, I was thinking the same thing about a Stitching Challenge or a Lemming after you posed the Uptown Girl canvas. I like your idea of letting each stitcher choose what to stitch. If you used it as a challenge with a few common design elements, what fun! I think I'd pick Espresso Girl to do first (subject to change without notice).
Judy, Sundance has so many beads available that you might have two different beads. Or their supplier may have changed. No way to know. I love both SJ Designs and Sundance beads. They have different finishes and styles, so I buy both when I can.
I'll post a link to the Uptown Girls canvases on Stitcherie as a nominee for the challenge there when an article publishes on Blog that has all the links necessary. That'll be in a few days.
Jane, I didn't think about the fact that they may have used different suppliers. Thanks for that insight. I'll be tickled when you post the suggestiong for the Uptown Girls.
