My friend was charmed by a shrug in the movie (she says the costumes are fabulous) that resembles one Sophie Digard has created. This is for the crocheters out there. Isn't it lovely? I'd adore one of those myself!

Dear AO, I am happily browsing AustenOnly and enjoying myself. It is a lovely escape from the pressures of Christmas prep here in CH. Keep up the good work and when I become Queen, you certainly shall control the BBC!

P.S. Loved the photo of the Shire horses in the snow. They are a passion of Sandy Lerner's but I didn't know she had them in England as well as Ayrshire, her farm down the road an hour or so from CH.

Yes,Sandy Lerner has Shires at CHawton.There were three in teh field when I visited last week,and I believe a carriage ride has now been recreated in the grounds.

There are carriage rides at Ayshire Fram during open houses and one year she took a carriage out for the Christmas parade in downtown Middleburg (it's horse country and a lot of the very wealthy people there have carriages they drive in clubs and on their own farms). It must have been a wonderful sight. I saw a video but wasn't there in person to enjoy it. Too raf to drive on a busy weekend.
I am still browsing your site, and wondering when you will do something on handwork during the long 18th Century. Not clothing manufacture but leisure sewing. I have been curious for a long time on what leisure needlework was like.
Well, then I will be doing some posts on that subject next year-the year of Sense and Sensibility, 200 years since it was first published- as needlework is mentioned a lot in that novel!I do hope you come over to look ;)

I will certainly stop by, Julie. It is certainly something I would like to know more about. Perhaps it is time for me to re-read Sense and Sensibility, not one of my favorites but an interesting story nevertheless.
