Resources To Make Beads and Bullions Easier

I'm attaching a lot of beads to Luna and I'm also thinking about using bullions for her fingers and fingernails.  Lots of folks hate making bullions but there are resources online to help you conquer them as well as explain how to best attach beads to needlepoint.

Let's talk bullions first.  Once you read what Kathy Fenchel says about bullion knots I think they will be less intimidating.

I've mentioned before Gay Ann Roger has a four part technique series on making beautiful bullions on her website.  Start reading the tips here.

A great many folks recommend the lasso technique to attach scattered beads on your NP canvas.  Needlepoint Now has a great diagram on their website that shows just how to do it.

If you are packing an area full of beads, try the beaded brick stitch which Robin King explains brilliantly here.

There are many other ways of attaching beads but these two techniques will get you through most beading situations.

Now I'm headed back to my beading and basketweaving!

Loved the brick bead thing, but want to make sure I understood it correctly. First you stitch with the "regular" thread and on top of it you stitch the bead in the same stitch with the beading thread? Is that it?

Thanks for the nice comments!

No, Palma, you don't stitch the background and then put beads on top. The beads are done in a brick stitch type pattern and completely cover themselves. What you see in the diagram is the thread going through each bead to hold it on.

Hi Jane. Thanks for including me into your blog today. Luna is looking wonderful. Also, for any one with Amy's DVD #1, Tips Hints + Knots, she goes over the technique for the Bullion Knot. I just finished doing Bullion Knots for the Harvest Fairy's fingers. It makes for a realistic touch to the canvas. Do you think Luna will be attending the Long Beach TNNA Market in January 2011? (no pressure... I was just thinking it would be awesome to see her in person.)

Robin, Luna's schedule for January is uncertain at present. She may not be framed by then. After all, she'll probably be finished in the middle of the Christmas framing rush and the trade show is very very early this year.

Don't hold your breath.
