Remember how I said yesterday this piece was going to be challenging because of all the color and pattern in it? I've actually found another challenge is going to be all the white in it. Take a good look at the photo of the plain canvas above and start counting the white areas.
The snowman's body and face are white, as are the furry rim, half the stripes and the ball at the end of his stocking cap. He stands in white snow.
There are white dots on his scarf, the toy bird and the package he holds in his mittens. There are also white snowflakes falling in the sky behind him.
I'm going to have to either use the same thread in all these places or find the same shade of white in a variety of threads to use for fuzzy fur, icy snowflakes, raised polka dots, knitted scarves, and snowmen and snow on the ground. Looking at the large variety of white items, all of which should be different textures, I think I need to use a variety of threads for the various white areas.

The number of white threads in different textures we have available is amazing!! Choosing among them for different parts of this canvas will be fun! Don't worry about "the same shade of white." Remember also that the way the light strikes the surface of these fibers changes the appearance with different stitches.

Jane - Possibility for the snowflakes in the sky. Swarovski is now making a 2mm round bead. It comes in crystal ab. I used a handful for snow falling in a canvas I just finished. OMG what an amazing sparkle!! Try it, you like it! (and they are just THE perfect size)

Pamela, thanks for the alert about the small Swarkovski crystals. I believe 3 mm beads are the smallest I can find here but I'll inquire at the bead shops to see if they plan to get these in.
Robin, thanks for the offer of whites from your stash. I have plenty of my own but of course you can take them off your stash credits if they are sent to another stitcher to use. I've never heard of Soft Sensations. Tell all! But I have most of the others in my stash except for floche which isn't carried here any more. I have a big skein of light tobacco but that's it for floche.

Maybe Pamela can tell us where in Tucson she found the 2mm round Swarkovski beads in case there isn't a local source for the rest of us....
